Magnetic Particle Clutches

Magnetic Particle Clutches enable precise and noiseless torque transmission that is proportional to the excitation current. They consist of two independently mounted rotors with a magnetizable powder in between. When the coil is energized, the powder grains form chains whose stiffness varies with the magnetic field, resulting in a transmission torque proportional to the current. These clutches have a robust design, are suitable for continuous slip and offer a wide torque control range of around 1:50. Typical applications include tension braking during unwinding, tension control with clutch during winding and use on engine and transmission test benches.

Magnetic Particle Clutches are designed for a temperature range of -20 to +80 °C.

Magnetic particle clutches with hollow shaft and slip ring assemblies

Magnetic particle clutches with hollow shafts and slip ring assemblies offer precise and wear-free torque transmission. Thanks to the hollow shaft design, they can be easily integrated into existing systems, while the slip ring assembly ensures a reliable power supply to the excitation coil. These clutches are ideal for applications with demanding tension control and continuous slip, such as those often found in winding and test bench technology.
