Magnetic Particle Clutches enable precise and noiseless torque transmission that is proportional to the excitation current. They consist of two independently mounted rotors with a magnetizable powder in between. When the coil is energized, the powder grains form chains whose stiffness varies with the magnetic field, resulting in a transmission torque proportional to the current. These clutches have a robust design, are suitable for continuous slip and offer a wide torque control range of around 1:50. Typical applications include tension braking during unwinding, tension control with clutch during winding and use on engine and transmission test benches.
Magnetic Particle Clutches are designed for a temperature range of -20 to +80 °C.
